Year 2

Well done to our Ocarina group who performed a fantastic recital of the songs they have been learning this year. Well done everyone!

As part of our topic work, the children designed and made their own umbrellas. They were very creative and came up with some fantastic ideas to make their umbrellas go up and down.

Our History topic is Buckets and Spades, where we are looking at seaside holidays in Victorian England compared with the present day. Three willing volunteers dressed up in Victorian bathing clothes to demonstrate the huge difference between swim suits in the 1900's and now. I think they look fabulous!

Making puddle pictures with felt pens, filter paper and water. As the water is sprayed onto the patterns, the colour is moved around and mixed. Can you see what new colours have been made?

As part of our on going topic work on Weather, the children made rain and wind gauges and devised their own 'Beaufort' scales for the strength of the wind.

Our Chinese visitors showed Class 2 how to paper cut. The children cut the designs very carefully and produced some intricate patterns .

The children celebrated the Queen's 90th birthday by having a tea party and wearing decorated paper hats

In maths, Class 2 used mirrors to find lines of symmetry

On Maundy Thursday, Class 2 re-enacted the Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples. They ate dates, goats cheese, nuts, figs, olives, sun dried tomatoes and grapes. They drank grape juice and ate flat bread as they remembered the blood and body of Jesus.

British Values/ Prevent Day: The children have been looking at themselves and other people and learning to respect the differences they see

In our RE work, Class 2 have been learning all about Advent being a time of preparation and a build up to Christmas. We talked about the preparations Mary and Joseph must have made for their long journey to Bethlehem. The children have written some super pieces of work from the view point of the donkey and how he felt at this busy time.

INSTRUCTIONS: In our English work, Class 2 have been writing instructions for others to follow. They soon realised that instructions have to be clear and detailed if you want to end up with the correct finished product! Have a look and see how they got on following instructions to make a jam sandwich.

3D Shape Work. Following on from work in their books, the children went on to make their own 3 D shapes using cocktail sticks and balls of plasticine. The children were able to name each of their shapes and their properties.
