For parents/carers who were unable to attend the, 'How can i help my child this year?' meeting...
Dear Parents and Carers,
I will be introducing spellings and homework on Monday. The children will have 10 spellings to learn and their test will be on the following Friday as well as handing their homework in. The spellings will be chosen from their Year 3 / 4 and 5/6 spelling chart, sent home last week. Preferably, I would advise to break spellings down and do a couple each night for ease; whichever way your child prefers. We have sent the chart home so you are aware of the expectations for the children’s spellings. Children who bring homework and spellings in every week (Friday) will gain house points, whereas the children who do not bring in their homework/spellings, will lose house points and complete any missing work at lunch times.
This year the school has spent a considerable amount of money on new Maths homework books, therefore the children will be expected to complete the amount required and bring the book back in on time and in pristine condition.
Also, I would like to see the reading record diaries in regularly (at least three times a week) as the children are expected to have their diaries checked each morning, which will be rewarded with reading points and prizes.
I will expect the children to take much more of an independent and responsible role in Year Five. The children are accountable for books, bags, equipment, swimming kit, PE kit and their uniform. Up to now, I am very impressed with how smart all of the children look and really make Year Five a class to look up to!
Year Five has a lot of opportunities and I am sure the children will have a fantastic year! Thank you very much for your support and I look forward to meeting you at the next parents meetings.
